Another type of secondary Madd (Madd Far’ee) which is dependent on the presence of Hamza is called the joined Madd (Madd Muttasil). In this case, the elongation occurs when a Madd letter (Harf al Madd), a is followed by a (ء) in the same word. Here the length of elongation is four to six Harakaat long (four, five or six seconds). Typically, in practice it is elongated for five seconds. Technically this is called Tool (lengthy). Examples of joined Madd are shown below.
