13.  Original Madd – Madd Asli

As mentioned earlier, the original Madd (Madd Asli), also known as natural Madd (Madd Al-Tabee’ee), refers to the three letters of Madd which are Alif with Fatha, Waow with Dhamma and Yaa with Kasr,

It is called Madd Asli as it has a natural place compared with other types of Madd, and there are no causes for secondary Madd. It is also called Madd Tabee (natural) as it is naturally lengthened. It only has a single form, and the entity of the letter is uttered by pronouncing the Madd itself. The elongation of Madd Asli is only two Harakat, i.e. the sound is lengthened by two seconds. The technical term for this is Qasr (shortness).

The same sounds and duration of Madd Asli are also produced by three alternative vowel forms, these are standing Fathah, standing Kasrah and upside-down Dhammah.  Examples of these are
